Well, honestly, I'm so tired I don't feel like blogging...but I will :) I'm noticing a trend with our travel days. In the morning I feel good and energetic. By time of arrival, wherever, I'm not feeling so great. The road conditions were rough today. It really was like 4-wheeling like I did in North Shore, Hawaii. Only this was 5.5 hrs of 4-wheeling. LITTLE bit unsettling. And then there were spots where the road just disappeared. Huh? Not from earthquake damage, but the last major hurricane last year. I'm done talking about the traveling.
The Citadel where we're staying is nice, esp for the area. B/c outside the walls is really, really not nice. Umm, squalor maybe. Tough to come up with accurate descriptive words.
The heat is stifling. Mom, you wouldn't do well here. Cross it off your list of vaca spots, ok? Our lead doc, Dan noted that I'm not sounding very good. Likely bronchitis, so once we get to the hospital I'll use the nebulizer and get a dose of Albuterol. I admit, I'm not liking the wheezing feeling either and it concerned me as we neared Dessalines and the environment became more desert-like. A LOT of dust. The guys have nicknamed me "Cough, cough". They crack me up. Their sense of humor has been great through this trip. And see, everyone but me has been here before so they are more at ease. I'm getting there. We've been here about an hour and I'm cooling off, ate a bit, took some pain meds, blah, blah, blah. Enough about me :)
I'm hearing that now is the right time for therapists to start coming in to Haiti. The initial crisis is done, but we're left with masses of injured people who can't function well.
I'm going to sign off for now. I want to rest before we head to the hospital. From what I understand resting at night is difficult due to the heat and the Disco next door that blares music til the wee hours; then church services begin and the singing/bells start at 4:30 am!
Love, Amy
